IN THE PIPELINE
GFT is poised to release its newest R&D
achievement in early 2004: Flexible PerForma-H®
VersaFlex® Polyimide
Thermal and Acoustic Insulation … the first thermal
and acoustic barrier insulation that does not require additional
vapor barriers or sound facing. At the same time, VersaFlex®
displays all the advanced properties of polyimide foam (e.g.,
flame, chemical and hot water resistance).
Based
on its patent pending Flexible PerForma-H® Polyimide
Thermal and Acoustic Insulation, the patent pending VersaFlex®
incorporates its own vapor barrier through the production
of closed-cell properties on one side of the insulation material,
thereby eliminating the need and expense of adding secondary
vapor barriers in applications where condensation or icing
are expected issues.
The elimination of this secondary process
will dramatically reduce installation time and cost. The savings
realized should be substantial and promise to make VersaFlex®
the leading candidate material for demanding cryogenic and
thermal insulation applications such as space launch platforms,
cryogenic tanks and lines, and chilled water piping for naval
vessels, both military and commercial.
